Sabic launches carbon fibre-reinforced compound with 75% recycled material

Sabic, a global petrochemicals manufacturer based in Saudi Arabia, has launched its first carbon fibre-reinforced compound containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials. The company’s new LNP ELCRIN DC0051RC1 compound, formulated using polycarbonate resin, contains 75% PCR.

The Saudi petrochemicals manufacturer Sabic has launched its new LNP Elcrin DC0051RC1 compound, available worldwide, which contains 75% post-consumer recycled materials (PCR). This is Sabic’s first PCR-based carbon fibre-reinforced compound. The company has developed a new formulation designed to enhance the product’s circularity while offering high-performance mechanical and flame-retardant (FR) properties, without containing chlorine or bromine. Formulated from polycarbonate resin, the LNP Elcrin DC0051RC1 compound offers high dimensional stability, a high modulus and UL94 V0 flame retardancy for thin walls of 0.8 mm, making it suitable for consumer electronics housings. Furthermore, it is lightweight and exhibits low warpage, making it equally suitable for large structural components.
